Away from the chaotic hustle of city life, Mr.Regupathy and Mrs.Thulasi, deeply proud of their cultural heritage and traditions, yearned to establish roots in his ancestral village, where they could reside alongside their extended family and relatives.
Nestled in the outskirts of Thrissur, this 1860 sqft dwelling stands amidst verdant surroundings, exuding a captivating allure. As the name suggests "THE HYBRID RESIDENCE," merges traditional charm with contemporary aesthetics. Despite the narrowness of the site, the design ensures ample natural light and efficient air circulation, fostering a spacious and airy atmosphere.
The mono-pitched roof of the living room draws the gaze towards the folded plate metal stairs, creating an illusion of lightness and expansive openness within the space.
The morning sunlight filters through the horizontal strip of clearstory windows above the stair area, casting a gentle glow as it strikes them.
The double-height courtyard, tucked alongside the dining area on the ground floor, not only amplifies the feeling of spaciousness but also bathes the adjoining spaces in natural light throughout the day, infusing them with a luminous and airy atmosphere.
The master bedroom occupies the South-West corner, while the kitchen is situated in the South-East corner, strategically positioned to capture the morning light. The first floor consists of an upper living room that overlooks the courtyard, as well as a bedroom.
The cement texture adorning the sit out wall creates a striking contrast against the lush greenery enveloping it. Additionally, the Mangalore roof tiles not only infuse warmth into the facade but also pay homage to the client's Tulu ancestry. Enhancing the exterior further, terracotta jaalis contribute to the overall charm of the house.
The folded plate metal stairs and meticulously handcrafted cement tiles behind the common wash area are painted with a vibrant yellow hue, elevates the entire space. To add visual interest, filler slabs with earthen pots adorn the dining room ceiling, breaking the monotony. Furthermore, the continuous grey shade vitrified tiles are interrupted by warm-colour patterned ceramic tiles, adding depth and character to the flooring.
